MovNat in Your City: A New MovNat Affiliate's Perspective
Posted | 0 commentsMy decision to become a MovNat Affiliate at MovNat Ohio unfolded naturally after certification in Durham, N.C. on June 3rd.
Driving back from Durham to Columbus, Ohio, my business partner, Jeff Turner, and I talked about how we could see the benefits of the MovNat fitness system for the over-40′s, for families, corporate desk-sitters, and specialized school-age athletes in our market.
Jeff brings 25+ years of strength and conditioning experience. He has always been a ‘movement’ trainer, so MovNat resonated with him right away.
I am fortunate to serve MovNat LLC as Communication Coordinator, and I have seen the first-hand impact of MovNat on people’s lives. I am very thankful to Erwan Le Corre for taking his personal practice of natural human movement and developing this program to share with the world. Developing any ‘system’ from scratch takes a nearly super-human dedication.
And the world is responding. People write to us on Twitter all the time. Some of the talk goes like this, “Thanks #MovNat for changing my life. I can’t wait to get outdoors and movnat today.” And this, “My back pain has gone away thanks to #MovNat” and what about this, “Went outside to MovNat at lunch time. My workmates think I’m crazy, but I feel happy, healthy and free.”
So two weeks after certification, I leased a small studio space (less than 1,000 sq. feet) that’s in a historic district right near several really nice parks — one that is maintained, but remains in a natural state along a river with rocks, logs, and plenty of space to move.
The studio is really a home base for our administrative work, meeting with clients, running the FMS with them — and Jeff maintains his personal training business there, too. We have a small supply of strength and conditioning tools, including a squat rack, kettlebells, 2x4s, a log, rocks, balls, bars, plates, bands, rope, and blocks.
We are in the process of designing a small climbing unit inside, but our intent is to be outside as much as possible.
My background is in marketing and writing, but I gave up my zoo-human office, along with most of my marketing clients, so I could focus on MovNat LLC and MovNat Ohio.
I have been using MovNat in my own training since I attended the West Virginia workshop in July, 2011, and I am having a blast now teaching it to others — and I continue to practice and try to grow in my own movement skills.
So far it has been a wonderful journey. If you are considering becoming a MovNat Affiliate or Partner, I say without hesitation: Do it!
But do it knowing that you will have to spend time marketing, promoting, educating, and inspiring — there is a lot of noise out there, a lot of bad fitness practices, and a lot of consumer confusion about fitness in general. ( “Are you like Crossfit? Is MovNat doing yoga outside?”)
The MovNat methodology is detailed and sound, and we have to be loud about how we’re different. The MovNat Trainer Manual is this amazing tool that Jeff and I depend on daily. Sign up for certification and this little gem will be yours and it will never leave your side.
MovNat speaks to my heart, my mind, and my body. It has freed me to be more open, healthy, happy, humble, creative, generous, and tuned-in to nature.
MovNat has taken me out of reps, sets, and thinking about how I look and what I weigh. That just doesn’t matter anymore. I feel incredible, and how many people can say that? I want to help others feel incredible, too.
I am MovNat 24/7 and proud to be part of a fitness system that I hope will be in our schools someday soon. I want doctors to prescribe MovNat training to poor movers. I want to see zoo-humans practicing on their huge, manicured corporate lawns. I want specialized athletes to find an element of fun in their training again by movnatting as part of their training.
It will happen. Nature and natural human movement will continue to change lives, and I want to be part of that in my neck of the woods.
Look us up when you are in or near Columbus, Ohio. If you movnat, you are part of our family, and you are always welcome. — Lori Crock
