Still think pull-ups are the most “functional” climbing movement?
In MovNat, we develop practical, skillful natural movement patterns: measured in both effectiveness and efficiency. A pull-up, for example, demonstrates upper body strength, but through the MovNat lens we see this drill as merely an isolated component of a variety of climbing techniques. In other words, if your goals include increasing movement skill and developing more robust body, practicing actually climbing on top of things is not only essential, but truly “functional.”
In video 5 of “From the Ground Up” we went over a fundamental MovNat climbing technique called the Foot Pinch®. In this video, we’ll be layering on more technique as we progress toward climbing on top of the bar.
If this movement is difficult for you, don’t give up….keep practicing! Wherever you are in your practice of reclaiming Natural Movement, let’s work together toward “raising the bar” on fitness/physical education by honoring the capability of the human animal.
Enjoy, share, and continue to deepen your practice of Natural Movement.
